“Brothel” is the story of a woman who, in an attempt to erase the memory of a traumatic event, runs away to a ghost town that was once a thriving mining town, Jerome Arizona. Julianne buys an abandoned brothel and sets to work escaping the present by restoring the past. As she throws her enerygy into turning the old building into a bed and breakfast, strange things start to happen.
Visions of the rooms as they appeared a hundred years ago, sounds and glimpses of the house’s original inhabitants begin to intrude on her life. Gradually as she comes to know the ghost Madam, Lady Sadie, and her girls, Julianne is more and more absorbed with, and into, their lives. She is fascinated by their ribald humor, mutual support and dreams of freedom – and horrified to learn of the tragic ends that await some of them, particularly the youngest of them, Maddy, who was murdered in the mine…
